This is the latest training manual I have put together to train a beginners group of SolidWorks users to use some more advanced modeling techniques to create complex parts.

Air Medical Transport Equipment

The following two components are the modular sections that support a medical bed. The base part of these sections were modeled using Weldments in SolidWorks. Additional parts were modeled in Sheet Metal or just Extruded parts. This next feature was a little bit of a challenge. As most know Medical beds in Hospitals have an installed hand rail along the side of the bed. We wanted to incorporate a similar feature. However, we couldn't just drop it straight down as there were to be drawers installed inside the base module. So I had to devise a way to have the handrail and to store it without interfering with the drawers. So, I figured the best place to put it was under the beds and this is the concept that accomplished that. These last two parts are the very intricate parts that allow the handrail to slide in and out as well as hold its vertical position. The last part is what allows the modular bed systems to interlock and to be removed/installed with ease. The entire modular bed section can be removed with one hand pulling on a release lever.

Composite Aircraft Interiors

These first few parts were created for injected molding. The parts were designed with installation hardware embedded into the plastic for simple installation. This last part is a fiberglass composite panel vacuum formed to specific shape. It was designed to support intercom audio, Lighting, and AC

The impact Solidworks is making in the Colligate world

I have been telling Engineering programs for years they should be implimenting SolidWorks into the Engineering curriculum. It is time to move to the next generation, even though 2D still palys its important role, it is time the education systems provide the right tools for the next generation so we can start making those crucial steps forward in producing the next great engineers.
